I have been a member of google for my email . It is so much nicer than aol. I like the way email is set up. I had never looked at the igoogle before. The images are great. I can use them when I complete lessons. I also am beginning to use the google calendar. I plan to utilize it more once school starts back. I can use this instead of a wall calendar. So much neater!

Thing 6

Thing 6
I have been practicing with the Flickr site for mashups, etc. There are tons of possibilites for use with this in my Foods and Nutrtion classes. Since we study all about the food pyramid, menus, recipes, etc. I could download pictures of these to my blog and other teachers could utilize my lessons.

Grand-daughter

Since I have been mentioning that all my time this summer is taken by babysitting Sophie, I thought it might be nice to share her picture.

babysitting

I am looking at mashups, etc. for Thing # 6 and have attempted to create one.I created the 4 square puzzle in pink and blue and downloaded 4 pic tures of my grand-daughter, but haven't gotten to finish it yet. I will be working on this the week-end when I am not babysitting. Please don't be bored with all the grand-baby stuff. That is about all I am doing this summer.

Flickr

Thing 5 . I am investigating the Flickr site. There are lots of pictures I can use for my blog. Now I just have to select the one or ones I want. I am going to try to keep a cooking theme for my blog this summer. I will add my pictures in the next day or so.

backwards blogging

Thing 1 . Read about blogs.
Thing 2. Listed the most difficult and easiest of 7 habits.
Thing 3. Set up blog and created avatar.
Thing 4.Registered blog.

I sort of did some of things before without numbering them. Sooo, I thought I would go back to clarify what I have done. I think I may be on the right track now. I've looked at some of the other blogs and they look great. I hope I can live up to expectations. I am babysitting 4 days a week this summer for my 5 month old grand-daughter in Barker Cypress area. This is about 30 minutes from my house so I am up and driving everyday by 6:30 and home again by 5:30. She is super cute but I forgot how time consuming a 5 month old is! I thought I would be working on my blog everyday while she slept. HaHa! Sleep? Anyhoo, I will get it done at night or on the week-ends.

avatar

It was easy to create the avatar, even though it only slightly resembles me. It is the "idea" really that I teach foods and nutrition so if you ever see me, you probably wouldn't recognize me by my avatar. Actually, I thought it was difficult to export the avatar to my blog. I had to work at it as I am not that computer saavy.

most difficult of 7 1/2 habits

One of the most difficult of the habits is the use of technology. Because of changing technology, it is difficult to keep up with all of it. Also, I have time constraints. One of the biggest obstacles as a teacher is finding time to learn new technology, practice it, and then utilize it in the classroom with the students. There seem to be infinite possibilites on the internet and computer. I have been taking as many technology courses as possible each year , just to keep up with the kids. They are so far advanced than we of the sixities are. They have the advantage of the computer age . It is amazing to me how the internet has changed society. Students many times help me with my lessons

easiest of the 7 1/2 habits

For me, the easiest of the 7 1/2 habits is to begin with the end in mind. I have always been goal oriented .For example, in high school, I wanted to be a cheerleader. The first time I tried out I didn't make it. For the next year, I practiced, practiced ,and practiced cheers along with making A's in school. At the end of my junior year, I tried out and this time I succeeded! Of course, this is a very simplistic example, but over the years, there have been many goals I have met; i.e. completing college, getting married, having children (this was an infertility issue), having a rewarding career, etc. I know these are goals most of us have, however, I know lots of people who don't achieve these "everyday" goals. As an educator, it has been very true that one learns by teaching. I really have gotten an education myself by teaching . I have taught pre-k, elementary school, ESL students, reading and Language Arts, and Family and Consumer Science. I have gained as much knowledge as my students!
